Just a sleepy little seaside village until 1984, this northernmost accessible town on the Outer Banks has seen some very rapid real estate development in the past 24 years.  Today, Corolla is one of the nation’s most desirable upscale vacation destinations.  There are three major attractions to this area. –

1. The Wild Ponies -- an attraction which has become famous as a result of the opening of the road and the ensuing traffic 
2. The Whalehead Club -- Built by millionaire industrialists in the 1920’s as a base for waterfowl hunting expeditions to the Banks, the Club is today being restored to it’s original glory and serves as a waterfowl museum 
3. The Currituck Lighthouse --  This  180 foot red brick structure which towers over the landscape features a small museum and the restored lightkeepers house and is open for climbing in the summer months.
