Located on the north end of the Outer Banks,  Duck, even today, maintains it’s “old beach” charm.  This soundside village, so aptly named for the waterfowl that abounds, remained undeveloped until the 1970’s.

Named for the sheer numbers of waterfowl that once flocked here during migratory seasons, Duck has experienced unprecedented growth over the past 15 or so years. A thriving “year round” town characterized by quaint boutiques, fine restaurants, and a variety of watersports facilities, Duck has become one of the most popular beach destinations and real estate investment opportunity in the country.

In the north end of the town is one of the main attractions of this quaint town – the Army Corps of Engineers research pier where the dynamic processes of a barrier island are studied.  There has been a wealth of pertinent date gathered over the years during hurricanes and Nor’easters which has helped planners and builders better understand the impact of wind and water on coastal construction.
